Careers Education, Information and Guidance
Legislation introduced in September 2013 requires young people to remain in education, employment or training until the age of 18. At Westbury School, we recognise the importance of raising the aspirations of all our students and supporting them to make informed decisions about their future.
Our Careers Programme is designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and understanding they need to successfully navigate their next steps beyond school. The programme is informed by the Gatsby Benchmarks and provides students with meaningful opportunities to explore different career pathways, develop employability skills and understand the world of work.
We review our Careers Programme annually to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of our students and reflects the opportunities available to them. As part of this process, we value and actively seek feedback from students, parents and carers, staff and employers. This feedback helps us to continually evaluate and enhance our careers provision.

Careers Lead

You will study careers through the curriculum in weekly timetabled lessons such as PSHE and Vocational Studies.
Careers Education activities will include practicing filling out application forms, mock interviews, creating a CV, developing transferable skills and exploring the different sectors in the world of work.
We will also go on visits to local colleges and training providers to help you explore the options available for your future.
Students
We understand that helping your child decide on their next steps after school can feel daunting and, at times, overwhelming. To help you and your child make informed decisions about the future, we have signposted a range of useful websites below.
These resources provide information about different career pathways and education and training options, including A Levels, T Levels, vocational courses, apprenticeships and university. You will also find useful labour market information to help you explore current and future career opportunities and the skills and qualifications they may require.
Parents and Carers
We would be very grateful for your support in helping us to inspire and prepare our students for their future careers. There are a number of ways you can get involved, including offering work experience opportunities, visiting the school to share your knowledge and experience of your sector, or taking a few moments to provide valuable feedback through our evaluation form below.
